Is the estimate really free?
Yes. Written estimates for install, replacement and quoted project work are free. If you need a technician to open the unit and diagnose an existing failure, that is a diagnostic call and starts at $150 for a window or PTAC unit, $200 for central AC, $250 for commercial. The diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair when approved on the same visit.
How fast will I get an estimate back?
For install and replacement estimates: one to three business days after the site visit. For emergency or same-day repair estimates: we call back within one business hour during business hours (7am to 6pm). For overnight or weekend estimates on business emergencies, the line is answered 24 hours.
What information should I have ready?
Address, apartment or floor, whether it is a co-op or condo (managing agent name), rough equipment type (central AC, ductless, window, PTAC, rooftop) and the symptom or the scope you need quoted. Photos of the equipment nameplate help a lot for parts identification.
Do you charge a trip fee to look at the job?
No trip fee for install and replacement estimates in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens. Diagnostic calls carry the diagnostic fee described above. For sites outside the three boroughs we quote the trip charge before we book.
Can you submit a proposal on managing-agent letterhead?
Yes. Commercial and co-op proposals go out on AC Repair NYC letterhead with the certificate holder information, insurance summary, scope of work, warranty terms and total price. Suitable for board approval and accounts payable.
What if I already have a quote from another contractor?
Send it over. We look at scope, equipment specified, warranty terms and included permits — not just price. Sometimes we come in higher; often the other quote is missing scope you will end up paying for anyway. You get an honest side-by-side comparison.
