Which service do I actually need?
Not every AC problem needs the same visit. Here is how to pick the right service line before you call.
The unit runs but the room is warm
This is almost always a diagnostic call rather than an installation. Central and split systems in this state are typically low on refrigerant, have a dirty coil restricting airflow, a failed capacitor stopping the outdoor fan, or a control-board issue. Book residential AC repair for a metered diagnostic. If the failure is stopping work today, use same-day AC repair.
No cooling at all, or water is leaking
Full cooling loss during heat, water pouring from an air handler, a burning smell or repeated breaker trips are situations we dispatch on the emergency line. Do not run the unit further — you can turn a $400 repair into a $2,000 compressor replacement. Call emergency AC repair; the line is answered 24 hours.
The old unit is at the end of its life
Central and split systems last 12–15 years in NYC; window units 8–10; PTACs 7–10. If the equipment is past that range and needs a compressor, evaporator coil or condenser, replacement is usually cheaper across the next five years than repair. The system is fine but you want to prevent problems
Pre-season tune-ups in April–May catch a weak capacitor, a slow refrigerant leak or a clogged condensate drain before the heat wave arrives, when a same-day slot is much harder to book. Book AC maintenance for residential systems and office HVAC for quarterly commercial contracts.
You have a specific equipment type
