Common refrigeration failures we fix

  1. Warm walk-in. Usually a dirty condenser coil, failed condenser fan, low refrigerant charge (leak), stuck defrost timer or blocked evaporator. We diagnose in the order that clears the fastest.
  2. Iced-up evaporator. Failed defrost heater, defrost termination thermostat or defrost timer. Sometimes it is a low charge from a slow leak — we test refrigerant pressures and superheat to be sure.
  3. Door gasket leaks and condensate. Worn gaskets waste energy and drop temperatures around the door. We measure, order and install replacement gaskets sized to your specific unit.
  4. Compressor short-cycling. Failed start capacitor, contactor or overload; sometimes a failing compressor. We isolate with amperage readings and quote repair vs replacement clearly.
  5. Ice machine producing cloudy or slow ice. Scale on the evaporator plate, failed water pump, clogged inlet or dirty condenser. We de-scale, sanitise and replace worn components.

How we work with restaurants

Commercial standard of work

  • Certificates of insurance issued to landlords and managing agents before the first visit.
  • Off-hours and pre-opening visits so repairs do not close the floor.
  • Written scope and price on every job, suitable for accounts payable approval.
  • Per-site equipment history so a recurring fault is treated as a pattern, not a new call.
  • EPA Section 608 certified refrigerant handling on every commercial refrigerant job.
  • Direct contact with the technician who knows your roof, not a rotating call centre.
Questions

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

How fast can you respond to a walk-in cooler failure?

For established restaurant accounts we target under 3 hours during business hours and under 6 hours overnight or on weekends. For a first call we quote a same-day emergency visit when the schedule allows. Every hour counts when product is at risk — we call ahead so you know when the technician is on the way.

What refrigeration equipment do you cover?

Walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-in refrigerators and freezers (True, Traulsen, Beverage-Air, Continental), prep tables and sandwich units, glass door merchandisers, ice machines (Manitowoc, Scotsman, Hoshizaki) and small blast chillers. We do not service supermarket rack systems or industrial cold storage.

How much does restaurant refrigeration repair cost?

A refrigeration diagnostic runs $250 to $400 depending on equipment and off-hours timing. Common repairs — condenser fan motors, evaporator fan motors, defrost boards, door gaskets, thermostats, TXV valves — land between $350 and $1,400. Compressor replacement is quoted individually and is often close to the cost of a used replacement unit, so we always price both side by side.

Can you write a preventative maintenance contract?

Yes. Quarterly PM contracts cover condenser coil cleaning, evaporator inspection, door gasket check, temperature log verification, defrost function test and refrigerant charge check. Contracts include a discounted diagnostic rate on emergency calls and priority scheduling during heat waves.

Do you handle Department of Health inspection failures?

Yes. If a DOH inspector cites a walk-in holding above 41°F, a broken door gasket or a leaking condensate line, we schedule the same-day visit and document the repair with photos and temperature readings you can attach to your re-inspection paperwork.

What about ice machines that produce cloudy or slow ice?

Cloudy or slow ice is usually scale on the evaporator plate, a failing water pump or a clogged inlet filter. We de-scale and sanitise ice machines to manufacturer spec, replace worn pumps and inlet valves, and set regular sanitation intervals in the PM contract so the problem does not return.
